Heavy paws crushed the fallen, autumn leaves. A large female, her long, drooling jowls tipped in silver whiskers, marched up the mountain trail. Behind her were her loyal Tosa followers, the Generals that commanded her troops. After them were the soldiers, dogs from all corners of Japan forced into the ranks of the Mad Queen's army. No one dared to speak, and despite the shuffling of hundreds, if not thousands, of paws on the forest floor, there was an almost uncomfortable silence that lingered in the air.
War was approaching.
Akatsubaki was approaching.
"We're getting close." The old bitch's voice cut through the silence like an arrow, swift and sudden. "I can smell unfamiliar dogs." She paused as her eyes rolled back to stare at her Generals. "Gin is mine. Remember that. If I see any of you try to kill him, I'll have your heads."

Bella had gone off for a walk, exploring the mountain range as a pass time and as a way to get things off of her mind. The chill of autumn was no issue for her, she welcomed the cooler air, it felt fresher to breath, it cleared her thoughts easier.
The akita mix walked along one of the mountain trails, the crunch of leaves underpaw which made the female chuckle, purposely stepping on a few more leaves to make them crunch, another giggle escaping her. She loved to play in the leaves when she was a pup, how fun it was for her and her brothers... all three of them...
Not letting herself get too deep into depressive thoughts Bella easily detected the voice of another dog, but who? Was it someone she was familiar with? It sounded like a female, but Bella carefully listened to try and hear it again. Her eyes then widened, someone was here to kill her grandfather?
Fear shot through Bella, who was this? What was happening? Bella snuck towards the voice. trying to remain unseen as she looked down on the group of dogs from above. A tosa, female, and what appeared to be hundreds upon hundreds of dogs following with her. No... No this wasn't happening! Why was it just one enemy after another?
Bella felt herself tremble, what should she do? Should she run? Alert the others? But... She was tired of running, she didn't want to hide behind others anymore. And so, Bella did something that would probably be seen as stupid by anyone else. Running down the mountain she stepped out in front of the other female, her head held high, her eyes strict, she didn't want another tragedy to come over her family.
"Can I help you?" Bella spoke calmly, for now she would pretend that she didn't hear the tosa say she was going to kill Gin. Though Bella seemed calm and confident, on the inside she was terrified.

Not seconds after the young Akita mix had revealed herself, Akatsubaki's guards had formed a ring around her. They growled deeply, yet none of them made a move to attack. Until their Queen gave the word, their task was only in intimidate. Akatsubaki stared down at Bella, studying every inch of her smaller body.
That silver fur, she thought. And those features...Could she be related to Gin? How lucky would that be, a relative of my greatest enemy walking right up to me... A slow smirk formed on Akatsubaki's wrinkly face, and her eyes glinted dangerously. She took a step towards Bella, lowering herself so that she could gaze the Akita mix directly in the eye.
"My, my...for such a pretty, young thing, you aren't very bright." She paused, before speaking again in a much lower, colder tone. "Didn't you know that the lamb who strays from the flock makes for easy prey...?"

The moment she had been surrounded Bella knew she had messed up, and it showed on her face... but only briefly before she calmed herself again, suppressing the lump in her throat. She wanted to look away when the much larger dog stared her in the eyes, but she didn't dare take her gaze away. She had to think of something though, they were going to kill Grandpa! And most definitely her too. There was no way in hell she could take so many dogs on, so she had to do some quick thinking, something that would get these dogs to leave her, and Ohu, alone, at least for now... At least until she could alert the others. Finally, Bella spoke, using everything she had to sound confident and honest. "I overheard you from above," she started out simply. "I heard you wanted to kill Gin," Bella paused, eye to eye with the enemy still. What should she say?? What could she say?! She had to think of a good lie, one that would get her out of certain death right now anyway. "You're not going to find him like this though, you're headed in the wrong direction. He went into the village yesterday to visit his old human, Daisuke," Bella finally tore her gaze away from the other dog and stood up on her hind legs to see over the guard dogs that had surrounded her. Looking down in the direction of the village, Bella pointed with a front paw. "There, Gin is down there in the village,"
Stepping back down onto all fours Bella looked at the tosa again, blinking, calculating. "It'd probably be easier to kill him there anyway, I don't think anyone else in Ohu went with him, pretty stupid if you ask me, but it is what it is."
She held her breath, it wasn't the best lie, but maybe she could buy some time for herself to escape if the larger dog believed her.

"So quick to betray old Gin, aren't you?" Akatsubaki said, a tongue running across her jowls. "Very interesting. Even more so the fact that you were so quick to try and point us in the opposite direction of Ohu's base." There was another pause, and suddenly, the Tosa's face twisted into that of anger. Her eyes seemed to glow in her rage, and when she spoke, not even her guards could keep from shivering. "Foolish, little bitch. Gin isn't the only male I wish to kill. Every man who rules over Ohu will die by my army's fangs. Wherever Gin is is irrelevant; he will meet his end soon. My only concern at the moment...is what to do with you, pretty one..."

Betray her Grandfather...? Though she had lied to protect him, the thought of actually betraying him made the akita mix's stomach turn. She could never betray her family. She only wanted to protect them, and protect them she would! She would show them all that she could protect them all just as much as they protected her. Bella's ear's flattened, unable to stop herself from doing so. Her blood felt like it was running cold as the tosa's face twisted in a rage, and it seemed she wasn't alone, her packmates seemed to be just as afraid. It seemed she had bought the lie, but it didn't do much good, and she cursed to herself silently... She had to keep lying, she didn't want to die a useless death when everyone else always died with honor... A shiver ran through Bella as the tosa wondered what to do with her now, and Bella needed to act quick. "You have some very interesting objectives, Ma'am. And surely a bright dog such as yourself would know exactly what to do with me?" Bella questioned. She felt sick. She felt cold. Was it the autumn breeze making her entire body chilled to the bone or was it the fact that she was possibly staring death in the eyes? "I don't need to tell you, of course, but I could be an great asset to your plans. Who knows their way around Ohu better than someone who lives here, you want to find Weed and the others right? I'm sure I could get you there without being noticed by every other dog who lives here, and trust me, there's a lot," Bella went silent, staring the bitch in the eyes.
"We females have to stick together, don't we?"

"Mmmm..." a low purr erupted from Akatsubaki's throat. Any suspicions she had about Bella had vanished for a moment, the euphoria of bonding with another female taking their place. A tender smile--or, at least, a somewhat non-threatening one, graced her features, and Akatsubaki allowed herself to sit down so that she could properly look into Bella's eyes without looming over her. "Indeed we do...perhaps I was wrong to label you as a fool so quickly. You're still young, after all. I was wondering if I should cut you down so that Gin's bloodline would die off for good. But to stop the blooming of young a gorgeous flower would be...criminal. I see it now...you would no longer sit silently under Gin, Weed, and whatever other wretched males stand above you. You'd be free to make Ohu the Woman's Paradise it was always meant to be, and I, of course, would be by your side, making sure no one..." The smirk then returned to the female's face. "Tried anything funny, hehehe..."
"My Queen..." A Tosa guard spoke up, a foolish decision in hindsight, not that he'd have the chance to learn from his mistake. "How can you be sure this isn't some kind of--?" He never got to finish. Akatsubaki had gotten to her paws, and leapt at the Tosa male before he had a chance to realize what was happening. The circle of guards broke up as the other males backed away, giving Akatsubaki plenty of room to tear the unfortunate guard apart. Even in her old age, her rage was not something to be taken lightly, and as the male's screams and gags echoed through the autumn forest, her followers were reminded of that.

The more the tosa's plan that Bella heard the more sure she was that this bitch was absolutely out of her mind. Sure Ohu was... Very male centered... But they didn't deserve to die because of it! That was insanity! But she had to put up with it for now... and it seemed she was going to get her chance, the chance to survive, the chance to protect her family.
A smile etched itself across her face. From the outside it would appear that it was directed at the tosa's crazy plans, a smile of agreement, but to Bella, to the one on the inside, it was a smile of success, she had successfully lied to this crazy dog, deceived her just like th-
Another dog had spoken up, a male this time, and Bella watched him carefully, heart pounding as the male was wary of her. But it didn't last long, it was swift, but it was grotesque, loud and nightmare-inducing as the female tosa was quick to put an end to him, ripping the poor dog apart without a scarp of mercy. Bella's eyes widened in terror, she felt sick, the stench of blood alone making her nearly lose her lunch. She had never seen such a sight before, never heard such terrifying cries of pain, anyone else who would have been in the area would have surely heard it. Was this the kind of thing her brothers had to experience? Her father and grandfather?
She had to keep her composure though, she couldn't... break... here.
"Th... That certainly shut him up," Terrible. How awful of her to say such a thing, she felt so horrible for the poor dog that had just died, but right now, if she wasn't careful, she would end up just like him.
Bella stared at the female tosa, unsure of what to say or do next, she could hardly drag her gaze away from the bloody, dead dog only steps away from her. Is that what would become of her loved ones if she wasn't careful?

Akatsubaki took a moment to respond, standing over the dead male's body as she panted for breath. Blood and saliva dripped from her maw, and for a moment, she was no different from a mindless beast, thinking of nothing except for the strong, metallic taste of blood on her tongue.
"Take this fool's body away," she finally spoke up. Her guards didn't need to be told twice, and two of them were quick to rush to their fallen comrade's side, dragging him off to be buried somewhere. Akatsubaki sat once more, licking away as much blood as she could from her jowls. She brought up a paw, and licked it in a somewhat nonchalant manner, as if she hadn't just slaughtered an innocent dog before Bella's eyes.
"I'm sorry you had to see that," she began to purr again. "But you'll get used to it, ruling beside me. The only good male is a dead one, after all. If we didn't need them for breeding, I would've had them all slaughtered by now, hehehehe..." The males surrounding her shuddered nervously, carefully stepping back so that they wouldn't be as easily reachable in case Akatsubaki decided to go on a murderous rampage again. "Anyway, dear...back to business. You'll guide me around Ohu, you said?"

She would get used to this? No, she was quite certain she wouldn't, how could one get used to hearing screams of agony and smelling the foul stench of blood? Only the insane could be comfortable with this.
All that aside the time Bella had been fearing had come, the tosa in front of her was asking for that tour around Ohu that she promised. She knew she wouldn't be able to protest, she couldn't make an excuse as to why she couldn't do it, and so Bella nodded.
"Ah, that's right. I can help you, I'll show you around Ohu and lead you to Weed and the other males," Bella turned, having no idea what she was doing. It seemed obvious to her that she needed to lead the dogs away from Ohu's camp rather than lead them to it, but for how long could she do that before they became suspicious and killed her and then went to find the others anyway? She had to be careful.
Alright, she had made up her mind, and with that she began to walk, coming closer to the guard dogs that had circled. "Move." she told them coldly, she had to play the part of someone who agreed with the female tosa right? Speaking of which...
Bella turned to the female, "My name is Bellatrix, by the way," she introduced herself. It was only right of her to try and get information from the leader while she could. "How far did you travel to get here?" she asked as she walked up one of the mountain slopes.
Her plan was to start by leading them in the right direction, and then deviate in a different direction later on. Surely these dogs didn't know where exactly the camp was, so she shouldn't have a problem in tricking them so long as she didn't make it so obvious. She knew a spot where the mountain's ledge was thin, and hard to walk across if you were too big, and tosa's were big dogs after all...
She hoped she wouldn't run into anyone along the way, if she ran into her father, or one of her brothers, or any male, they would be done for...

Akatsubaki let out an approving grunt at Bella’s coldness towards her males. It seemed that living under Gin hadn’t dampened her spirit. Akatsubaki liked that quite a bit. Yes, this Bellatrix would make for a good ally...assuming this wasn’t just another trick. What a shame, it would be, to have to rip the pretty, little lady apart...
“Bellatrix...” The Tosa tested the name on her tongue, a sly grin forming on her muzzle. “The woman warrior...what a strong name for a strong-willed beauty, hehe...” Akatsubaki padded closer to Bella, her pelt brushing against the young Akita’s. Such soft fur... “And to answer your question...I started from Shikoku, leading the Tosas and other fighting dogs across the country to gather more troops. Every dog you see behind my guards were once the followers of various Boss Dogs. After I disposed of their pathetic leaders, I gave them a choice: join me, or die. Needless to say, most of them chose the former. A few months of that, and now, here we are in Futago Pass. It was a long journey, but it’ll be worth it once I’ve slaughtered Ohu’s top males.”
“Oh,” she then added after a brief pause. “I never introduced myself. I am Akatsubaki, the Tosa Queen, Killer of Males and other such titles.”

“A strong name yourself,” Bella complimented back coolly, glancing at the other female. “You’ve certainly traveled a long way then. I’m surprised news of you and your pack hasn’t reached us,” That was something puzzling to Bella, if this dog was going around murdering leaders of all kinds of packs then surely news would reach Ohu? But ten, supposedly not if remaining members of said packs were either killed or forced to join Akatsubaki.
How cowardly, Bella couldn’t help but think. All these dogs and they didn’t have the guts to overthrow her...? No, she couldn’t think like that, she didn’t know what their situations were. She saw how easily Akatsubaki killed that other dog who spoke against her, she didn’t blame them for being scared, not when she felt so scared herself.
She had been leading them on now for a while, walking in the direction of Ohu’s base camp. Though as planned, Bella took a turn, one that would lead the dogs to a more rocky, hard to travel path that had ledges that one could easily fall off.
And Bella wondered, if it came down to it, would she be able to kill another by pushing them off a cliff? Never before had she taken a life, or even taken part in a fight. Could she really be the one to put an end to someone’s life?

“Take care, Lady Akatsubaki” Kurou warns as he trails behind his queen and the akita mix as the pack moves in a two by two formation as they move along the rocky cliffs. He glances below to the ravines as the large pack continues. “What of the females of Ohu? Do we capture the soldiers upon order?” He turns to the female tosa his ears flicking back as if uneasy about his question to her after what she did to the one male dog. Takeshi had chosen the wrong area to hunting, he was near the cliffs that the Queen’s pack were waking upon, having just grabbed a bird he looks up as a few rocks tumble down the cliffs attracting his attention.
“Oy! Bella!” He calls out just catching sight of his fellow solider, unfortunately for the Doberman he had unknowingly messed up the plan.

Bella felt herself tense again as she heard one of the males ask What they should do about the females, the thought of her mother, Reika, or Cross being anywhere near these dogs made her feel ill. Bella glared at the Male,
answering before Akatsubaki had a chance to. “None of you Male swines better lay a paw on our females. I’ll handle talking to them, don’t you worry,” she promised. She hoped it wouldn’t even have to come to that, but if something went wrong, if for some reason she had to continue to put on an act then she would think of something to get the others away from here.
As the mountain trails became rockier little stones and dust crumbled off of the mountain paths, falling below. Suddenly, a familiar voice reached her ears, there down below stood Takeshi, greeting her kindly. No... oh no Bella’s stomach sank in dread.
She looked down at Takeshi, her mouth agap as if she wanted to speak but she couldn’t find the words. If she didn’t think fast he would surely be killed! But Bella felt frozen in fear, her mind blank. She looked at the Doberman with pleading blue eyes, hoping that would be enough for him to get the message and run.

“As if I would be so foolish as allow my plans to drift into enemy ears. I have spies among my ranks who make sure my secrets stay secret. Then again...” Akatsubaki then smiled a twisted smile.”If Ohu had heard of my plans prior to this day, then they’d just be rushing to their deaths sooner. I may be old, but I’m fully capable of leading even the smallest of platoons into battle. Either I fall, or my enemies do, that’s my motto.”
As the army continued their journey up the mountain, Akatsubaki took note in the changing of the land. Grass and undergrowth bled into stone and deep crevices. She began to frown. “Quite a...dangerous place for the Ohu Army to make their base...” The Tosa commented, trying to hide her uncertainty. “Isn’t this place supposed to be a Paradise? What if a pup ended up falling to their death? I tell you, males have absolutely no idea what they’re doing...”
When Kurou spoke up, Akatsubaki’s head twisted back to flash him a murderous glare. The only thing that stopped her from lunging at him was the fact that her taste for blood had been satisfied for the day. Well...that, and Bella’s response to the foolish dog. Her rage melted away, becoming smug satisfaction as she grinned at Bella.
Then, Takeshi made himself known.
Akatsubaki’s head snapped in the direction of the voice, a low growl emitting from her jaws. “An Ohu soldier...? Heh...the first to die, then.”
